About Ihsaan Takaful and Financial Services

A Zanzibar consulting firm specialising in Islamic finance, business valuations and feasibility studies - and the international collaboration that extends its reach.

Company overview

Built by people who have carried the responsibility they now advise on

Ihsaan Takaful and Financial Services was incorporated in Zanzibar in 2022 to serve as a premier advisory firm dedicated to Islamic finance, business, wealth management, Islamic capital markets, the Halal industry and business-process re-engineering.

From inception, our mission has been to bridge global standards with local realities, ensuring that institutions, investors and communities benefit from solutions that are both principled and practical.

Our directors bring decades of hands-on leadership across diverse financial ecosystems. Collectively, they have:

  • Chaired Shari'ah boards for leading financial institutions.
  • Steered a national bank through a full turnaround, restoring stability and growth.
  • Conducted audits across various entities, strengthening regulatory oversight.
  • Published peer-reviewed research on Takaful and Islamic banking, contributing to global scholarship.

We are not theorists working at a distance. We are practitioners who have navigated the complexities of governance, compliance and institutional transformation firsthand. This foundation enables us to deliver advisory services that are rigorous, context-sensitive and aligned with both Shari'ah principles and international best practice.

Our commitment is to empower organisations in Zanzibar and beyond with strategies that endure — whether structuring SUKUK for infrastructure, designing feasibility studies for new ventures, or guiding boards toward ethical and sustainable governance.

Core values

Seven pillars that decide how we work

These are not aspirations on a wall. They are the tests we apply when an engagement gets difficult and the easy answer is available.

Quality

Work is delivered to the standard our own professional bodies would apply to it, not to the minimum a client would accept.

Integrity

We say the same thing to the board, the regulator and the client, including when it is unwelcome.

Independence

Our advice is not shaped by a product we are trying to sell you, because we are not selling one.

Commitment

We stay with an engagement until the change is embedded, not until the report is delivered.

Customer Focus

Every recommendation is built around your risk profile, your market and your capacity to execute it.

Professionalism

Certified practitioners, documented methodology, and confidentiality treated as an obligation rather than a clause.

Embracing

We work across schools of thought, jurisdictions and sectors, and we bring partners in when they know more than we do.

Corporate philosophy & governance

How risk, transparency and responsibility are handled

Risk management

Every engagement is scoped against the risks it carries for the client - regulatory, financial, reputational and Shari'ah - and those risks are stated in writing before work begins. Our directors' backgrounds in central bank internal audit, bank turnaround and Shari'ah supervision mean risk is assessed by people who have carried it.

Transparent decision execution

Recommendations are traceable: the data behind them, the assumptions applied, and the alternatives considered are all documented, so a board can interrogate a conclusion rather than simply accept it.

Corporate social responsibility

The firm contributes professional capacity to the community it operates in - advisory support to public institutions on Waqf, Zakat and Islamic social security, and training that raises the standard of financial practice across the region rather than only inside our client list.

Governance

The board behind the practice

Five directors whose credentials are on the public record: a former bank chief executive, two registered Certified Public Accountants, a PhD in Islamic banking and finance, and a globally recognised Shari'ah advisor.
